Safeguarding Youth Training
The Piedmont Council places the highest importance on protection of our youth. Safeguarding Youth Training, formerly known as Youth Protection Training (YPT) is an online course covers the Scouting America policies and procedures to ensure all adult volunteers and parents learn how to recognize, respond and report improper activity. This valuable course is required for every adult volunteer.

There are two California Specific Requirements in addition to Scouting America Safeguarding Youth Training Online.
LiveScan & California Mandated Reporter Training Details
- LiveScan Fingerprinting Background Check is free to all Piedmont Council Volunteers, and is available as a walk-in basis in our office M-F 9am-4:30pm, 10 Highland Way, Piedmont CA 94611.
- California Mandated Reporter Training Online: Estimated Time 2 hours, cost is $7.99 to download the certificate, which must be provided as proof of training.
Anyone is welcome to take Safeguarding Youth Training. This free online course. You do not have to be a registered member of the Scouting America to take Safeguarding Youth Training. It is recommended for all parents and required for every adult volunteer. If you are not registered, and do not have a my.scouting.org account, or have any questions about Safeguarding Youth Training contact the Piedmont Council Service Center at 510-844-4751.
Scouting America and Piedmont Council require Safeguarding Youth Training (formerly YPT)) to be renewed annually.
