Anyone spending 16 hours over the course of a month, 32 hours over the course of a year and/or who participates in an overnight campout is considered active, and must be registered and must complete:

  1. FREE LiveScan Fingerprinting Background Check Walk-In Appointments Monday through Friday 10 AM to 4:30 PM, Evenings Available by Appointment. Please Call First To Confirm Your Walk-In Appointment: 510-844-4751. Make sure to be mindful that you do not need to make a second appointment when completing the California Mandatory Reporter Training (CAMRT) for Volunteer process below. You also do not need to bring forms with you, we provide the bneeded forms. All you need to bring is a driver’s license or state identification card.
  2. California Mandatory Reporter Training (CAMRT) for Volunteers – This training takes approximately two hours – Take CAMRT Training For Volunteers Here. THIS TRAINING CHARGES a $8.99 FEE TO DOWNLOAD THE CERTIFICATE. Complete the CAMRT, download and save the certificate.You will receive a scanned PDF of the LiveScan Consent form at your LiveScan appointment. PLEASE UPLOAD BOTH the CAMRT certificate and LiveScan consent form here: https://californiascouting.org/piedmont Be mindful that you do not need to make a second appointment when completing the California Mandatory Reporter Training (CAMRT).Do not click and download the LiveScan request form or consent form, as you will end up paying for a session unnecessarily. These forms will be provided at your FREE LiveScan session, and can be uploaded using the link above.
  3.  Safeguarding Youth training is required for all Scouting America registered volunteers and is a joining requirement.

If you registered your child online you have an existing my.scouting.org account, and can access this training by logging in and selecting the Safeguarding youth icon. If at anytime you or your child were members in the past, please DO NOT create a my.scouting.org account and/or take Safeguarding Youth training without first confirming your Piedmont Council ID, and my.scouting.org account. You can confirm membership or get assistance with creating your my.scouting.org account at your LiveScan appointment.

Safeguarding Youth training must be taken every year. If a volunteer’s Safeguarding Youth training is not current at the time of annual registration renewal, the volunteer will not be re-registered. All adult volunteers will need to complete this training annually, even if they have taken the previous Youth Protection Training, previously required every two years.

Register in a PACK current or rising Kindergarten- 5th grade or  TROOP rising 6th grade + (for PCSC, PSC or Post 911 contact your unit leadership) position as a Unit Scouter Reserve at minimum.

Piedmont Council receives confirmation of your LiveScan results, California Mandated Reporter Training certificate and LiveScan Consent Form upload and YPT. Each organization requires their own Live Scan, so these steps must be completed even if you have been fingerprinted for another organization.

During the registration process, you will complete a questionnaire and consent form for a BSA background check. Contact your unit leadership about adult leader registration fees. You may need a payment code for your Pack, Troop, Venture Crew (PCSC), Exploring (PSC, Post 911) Unit. If you do not want to recieve and pay for a Scout Life subscription, please uncheck the subscription option during the registration payment process.
