Scouts BSA
Grades 6-12 (11-17 years old)
Scouts BSA (known as Boy Scouts until 2019) helps girls and boys grow into capable leaders and good citizens through outdoor adventure, hands-on skills, and community service.
Scouts BSA
Scouts BSA is the ultimate form of learning by doing and engaging in the community and greater world. Scouts gain a love for the outdoors, learn what it means to be a good citizen and community member, and learn to lead. They have many opportunities to challenge themselves, develop new skills and expertise, and explore hobbies and potential careers – all while building friendships with their fellow Scouts.
A groundbreaking 2026 study of more than 3,000 U.S. adults finds that compared with non-Scouts, Eagle Scouts are far more likely to lead at work and in their communities; they feel happier and more hopeful; and they are more likely to be trustworthy, helpful, and willing to do the right thing. Read the news release and explore the research.
Each troop plans their own outings, such as:
- Rafting on the American River
- Hiking and camping in Yosemite
- Backpacking in Joshua Tree National Park
- Learning to surf in Santa Cruz
- Snow camping in Tahoe
- Launching rockets and camping on Dillon Beach
- Service projects that benefit our community
- Week-long summer camp adventures
We understand that balancing sports and other extracurriculars can be challenging, but it’s possible with Scouting in Piedmont. Scout troops are full of youth who are varsity athletes, robotics team leaders, and academic standouts. Just ask Houston Texans running back David Montgomery or NBA champion Josh Hart of the New York Knicks — both earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Scout Troops
The Piedmont Council supports five Troops, each with its own personality and traditions. Troops are youth-led, with trained adult support and supervision. Scouting encourages youth to choose, plan and lead their Troop activities and explore their own interests. By taking on these responsibilities, Scouts develop and promote teamwork while learning to lead as well as follow by example.
During the school year, Troops meet weekly and plan 6-8 weekend outings. Troop Open Houses in the Spring (typically early March) are a great way to discover the Troop that is right for your family.

Order of the Arrow
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting’s National Honor Society of Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law and have demonstrated camping expertise. Our Lodge, dating back to 1951, has fun overnight outings, does community service projects, and participates in advanced leadership opportunities across the Council. Scouts are nominated to join OA by their units.
